The Housing Authority's mission is to serve the housing needs of low to moderate income families in the authority's jurisdiction in order to 1) increase the availability of decent, safe and affordable housing in its communities; 2) ensure equal opportunity in housing; 3) enhance self-sufficiency; 4) promote community quality of life and 5) economic viability.
Mother of three, I relocated to Texas five years ago. Shortly after moving, my job ended. Unable to find work soon enough, my children and I ended up homeless. I was determined to make it and not return home to Florida. I went into the Samariate Inn for 2 1/2 months. As part of my requirements to reisde there I applied for public housing.
The MHA Resident Council is a group of public housing residents in your development that meet and talk about issues important to all residents. Sometimes members of the Council are also members of the Resident Advisory Board (RAB), a group of residents that advises your housing authority about its Annual and 5 Year Plans.
